Easter (Pascha): Not a Ritual, but Christ Himself

Introduction

Dear brothers and sisters,

Easter is not a date. It is not a custom. Nor is it a religious obligation.

At its heart, Easter is one reality:

Christ has truly risen.

Paul’s Principle (Colossians 2:16–17)

“These are a shadow (skia), but the substance (sōma) belongs to Christ.”

Paul reminds us that the question is not whether we observe a festival or not,but whether our hearts are truly connected to Christ Himself.

A Shift in the Question

Many ask:

• How should we celebrate Easter?

• What is the correct way?

But we ask instead:

Are you encountering the risen Christ today?

The Present Reality of the Resurrection

The New Testament uses the word:

• ēgerthē — “He has been raised.”

This means the resurrection is not only a past event,but a present and living reality.

Remembering Without Ritual

We understand Easter in a simple way:

• Not about the day itself

• Not about outward forms

• But about participating in Christ’s life

The Greek word symmetochē means “to partake.”

The resurrection is not something to observe, but something to live in.

A Simple Way to Remember (Prayer)

Instead of focusing on ritual, we encourage prayer:

• “Lord, I come before You, letting go of all assumptions.”

• “I receive Your death as being for me.”

• “I believe You are alive now.”

• “Let me share in Your life.”

• “I thank You, for You are my life.”

This is not a ritual.It is a living relationship.

A Gentle Warning

People tend to return to visible things:

• Events

• Decorations

• Obligations

These can be helpful—but only if they lead us to Christ.

If they replace Him, they lose their meaning.

For Families and Children

Easter eggs and bunnies can remain as joyful traditions.

But we gently remind our children:

“These are fun traditions, but what matters most is that Jesus is alive.”

• Eggs → new life

• Spring → renewal

• Joy → a reflection of God’s life

Give meaning, but never burden.

Conclusion

Easter is not a day to keep, nor a ritual to perform.

It is the joy of knowing that:

Christ is alive—here and now.
