For House Churches, Families, and Worshippers at Home
You don’t need a building, a pulpit, or a large group to walk closely with Jesus. Sometimes, all it takes is a quiet prayer in the living room, a shared Bible reading at the dinner table, or a simple song sung by your children.
We understand that attending a traditional church isn't always possible—or even desirable—for many individuals and families. That’s why the Christian House Church Mission of Washington exists: to support those who want to worship freely, faithfully, and safely… at home.
This website offers many resources, some exploring how to share your faith or serve your neighbors. But please don’t feel pressure to “do more. ”You’re not behind. You’re not missing anything. Starting with your own home is more than enough.
If you’re curious about how others worship quietly in their homes, or you’re simply looking for a fresh way to reconnect with Jesus in your daily life, we warmly invite you to explore our website.
Visit Christian House Church Mission of Washington. Let it be a peaceful guide, not a checklist. May your journey begin with rest, not pressure, with peace, not performance, and with the joy of knowing that Jesus is already there in your home.
This Week’s Theme: “What is Church? What is Peace?”
Jesus once said that worship would no longer be confined to a holy mountain or temple. True worship happens wherever hearts align with God. That includes your living room, your kitchen, or a quiet moment during the day.
The word “Ekklesia” doesn’t mean “a building.” It means “those who are called out”—people gathering to follow Jesus, whether two or three or a whole household. The word “Shalom” means more than peace from conflict. It means wholeness, healing, rest, and harmony with God and others. You are already the church when your family gathers in love, humility, and trust in Christ. And where Jesus is, Shalom lives.
Sample Format & Structure
1. Opening Prayer
(Pray together or have one person read this aloud)
Dear Jesus, Thank You for being here with us now. We welcome Your Spirit into our home and into our hearts. Even though we are not in a church building, we know You are with us wherever we gather in Your name. Teach us today the meaning of true Church—and help us to live in Your Shalom, Your peace that fills every room with love. In Your holy name we pray, Amen.
2. Suggested Hymn or Worship Song
Choose a song that brings peace and focuses on God’s presence. Here are a few ideas (you can sing, hum, or listen quietly together):
“Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing”
“Here I Am to Worship”
“Be Still My Soul”
“Shalom to You Now”
3. Bible Reading & Devotional Thought
Scripture: Matthew 18:20
“For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (NIV)
Short Devotional Thought: Jesus reminds us that His presence is not limited by walls or steeples. When we gather—even individually or with just a few—in His name, we become His church. That’s Ekklesia—a living body of believers, not a building. And when Jesus is among us, His peace (Shalom) enters too. This peace is not just silence or calm—it is the restoration of everything broken in us.
When you sit quietly in prayer, read the Word alone, or sing softly in the kitchen—Jesus is near. And if you live with others, those moments shared can become holy ground.Whether alone or together, your worship matters. You are not forgotten. You are the Church.
When you sit at the table with loved ones, when you pray in your heart, or when your child sings a verse—they all become part of true worship.
4. Reflection Questions or Family Discussion
What makes a church a church?
Have you ever felt God’s peace (Shalom) in your daily life?
How can our home become a place of peace and worship this week?
What small habit can we begin that brings us closer to Jesus?
(Children can draw a picture of what “church at home” means to them!)
5. Closing Prayer or Benediction
Lord Jesus, Thank You for teaching us that we are the church, not the building. Help us carry Your peace into every room of our home. Let Your love guide our actions, and let our words bring life. May our home be a place where Ekklesia grows and Shalom rests. Go with us now into this week, and let us walk with You in quiet joy. Amen.
