By CHCMW Staff | Christian House Church Mission of Washington Blog Edition for This Week — Why the Presence of Christ Does Not Depend on Church Size or Titles — “You weren’t lost. You were simply following the quiet voice of the Lord.”
These words are not just poetic comfort. They are a theological truth rooted in the heart of the Gospel. In every generation, believers have questioned whether they are "doing church" the right way—especially when they find themselves worshiping at home, outside of buildings, or away from recognized church leaders. But here is the good news:
Christ’s Help Does Not Depend on Church Size or Human Rank
Jesus never once said,
“Where a high-ranking pastor is preaching, there I am.”
Instead, Jesus made this simple promise “Where two or three gather in my name, there am I among them.” — Matthew 18:20
Even if you're alone in your living room, quietly praying with your Bible…Even if your “church” is just your family around a kitchen table… Jesus sees it as complete. He sees you as complete.
A Church Is Not Made by Titles—It Is Made by Trust
In today’s religious world, many people are made to feel that they “lack something” because they no longer attend a large church, or were never part of one to begin with. But let us be clear:
Jesus is not impressed by buildings. He is moved by broken hearts and sincere faith.
If you are worshiping in a house church—whether it's your own, a friend’s, or online across time zones—know this: You are not less than. You are not unfinished. You are not missing anything.
Your house church is not a "temporary substitute" for a real church. It is the real thing—because Jesus is the one who makes it church, not walls, titles, or traditions.
Even One Is Enough
Many ask: “But can just one person praying still be considered a church?”
In the mystery of grace, yes.
Because the Spirit who dwells within you is not a fragment—but the fullness of God’s presence, and whenever you respond to Him with faith, even in silence, you are abiding in the Body of Christ.
As the Apostle Paul reminds us: “Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?” — 1 Corinthians 3:16
Closing Words for the Wandering Heart
So if you’ve felt that your small gathering at home is incomplete...Or that you are somehow missing the "real" church experience...
Please know this:
You are not behind.
You are not lacking.
You are simply where Jesus has called you—for such a time as this.
And from His perspective. Your house church is already a completed, beautiful piece of the Kingdom. Not someday. Now.
Let no one steal that assurance from you. Let no tradition make you feel small.
You are fully seen. Fully heard. And fully loved—by the Shepherd who knows His sheep by name.
